Kesha Says She 'Will Not Take Back the Truth' About Her Rape & We Applaud Her

Free Kesha supporters in front of courthouse

For the past two years, Kesha -- the former mascot of glitter, booze, and the general concept of fun -- has publicly battled with her record producer Lukasz "Dr. Luke" Gottwald to be released from Kemosabe Records (Luke's label under Sony) after allegations of both sexual and emotional abuse. The most recent link in the chain of events is that she was allegedly offered her "freedom" by Sony, if and only if she retracted the rape accusations directed at Dr. Luke.

But a brave and strong Kesha took to Instagram with a powerful message -- essentially letting fans know that she wasn't willing to sacrifice dignity, respect, and justice for her career.

A representative for Dr. Luke didn't waste any time in providing a statement to the Huffington Post

Kesha’s Instagram posting is false. The Court repeatedly stated Kesha is already free to record without Dr. Luke, and that she had not presented any facts supporting her claims. That’s because all the evidence - including Kesha’s own videotaped sworn testimony - show her allegations are false. The only thing Kesha is not free to do is to continue to lie about Dr. Luke through publicity stunts and outrageous smears, ignoring the fact that by her own free will she went to work and entered new contracts with Dr. Luke years after this "incident" supposedly happened. Her goal all along has been solely personal enrichment by seeking to break contracts that brought her success and millions so she can enter into more lucrative ones. We look forward to our day in court holding Kesha accountable for her lies.

Although Kesha's intent may have never been to become a spokesperson for sexual assault, she has become one -- both for everyday women as well as for those in the industry. She hasn't allowed this awful situation to compromise her morals. Instead, she has decided to continue to fight it out in court, serving major justice for us all. The alternative -- taking Dr. Luke up on his alleged offer -- may have been a bit easier, but looking at a bigger picture, she didn't opt for easy.

This incident has drastically changed how we view Kesha -- she has become so much more to young women than glitter and her catchy tunes. In dealing with this unfortunate case, she's become a hero and a role model to women everywhere through her ongoing testimony.

While we're uncertain of the outcome of this case, we must say thank you to Kesha -- thank you for starting a conversation and thank you for refusing to back down despite everything.
