Jim Bob & Michelle Duggar's Marriage Advice Leaves a Lot to Be Desired

So much for those divorce rumors! Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar recently shared their marriage tips on Facebook, likely in response to the reports that they've been considering a split in light of the whole Josh Duggar controversy.

Just last week, gossip swirled that Jim Bob and Michelle were considering a divorce after 32 years of marriage because they could not agree on how to handle their eldest son's cheating scandal. Josh came home a few weeks ago, after spending six months in an intensive rehab facility for his alleged sex addiction.

Yeah, we didn't believe it either. Anyway, the former 19 Kids and Counting stars shared five tips for a happy marriage, declaring, "We are more in love today than when we married almost 32 years ago!"

It was pretty standard Duggar-stuff, including encouragement to "individually pursue a close relationship with Jesus." They explained, "The closer we each get to God, the closer we each get to each other." There was also something about not letting the sun go down on your anger, meaning, "Don't let offenses build up, but apologize and make things right quickly."

The Duggar parents concluded their list of advice by advising couples not to name-call or put each other down, but instead "praise each other with a grateful spirit," and "enjoy each other's company" on regular date nights. They then recommended that married couples read Willard F. Harley's book, His Needs, Her Needs.

I think it's great that Jim Bob and Michelle seem to still be going strong all these years later, especially considering what their family has endured in the last year. Josh's molestation came to light just last spring, TLC cancelled their long-running reality show, and then Josh confessed to being the "biggest hypocrite ever" by being unfaithful to his wife and four children.

It just seems like an odd time to put themselves into the spotlight over what makes a happy and healthy marriage. I'm pretty sure their daughter-in-law Anna did all those things ... but no matter how good you are to your spouse, there's no guarantee they'll treat you right too.

Maybe they should have added something about the importance of boundaries in any relationship, especially one so intimate as a marriage. Or, maybe they could have included a biggie that Josh could have used: Stay faithful to your spouse.

Just saying.
