Gwen Stefani Admits She Felt 'Dead' When Her Marriage Fell Apart

She may seem happy and totally in love right now, but that doesn't mean that Gwen Stefani isn't still mourning her marriage and feeling the feels that come with breaking up with someone you shared your life with for more than a decade.

The "Used to Love You" singer got real in an interview with the New York Times recently, and opened up about the end of her marriage to Gavin Rossdale. Although the public didn't learn of the split until August of 2015, Gwen knew it was over six months earlier.

She said that she found out something devastating the morning after performing with Maroon 5 at the Grammys, and apparently it was a doozy. "If I could, I would just tell you everything, and you would just be in shock. It's a really good, juicy story," she confessed.

Hmmm, could it possibly be that Gavin had been having an affair with the nanny? Gwen won't confirm, in part because she wants to protect her kids. I knew she was a classy lady.

Whatever it was, it was enough to send her into somewhat of a spiral. She confessed that she felt like dying when she was in the midst of everything going down with her hubby. "I'm gonna die," she said of her feelings at the time. "I am dead, actually. How do I save myself? What am I going to do? How do I not go down like this?"

She also said that she and her current beau Blake Shelton bonded in part because they were "going through literally the exact same thing in literally the exact same time frame." They were already friends as co-hosts of The Voice, so it's no wonder they found solace in each other's company.

Even so, regarding how she and Shelton connected, she said, "Never in my wildest, craziest dreams would I ever have seen this coming."

Isn't that when the best things happen in life? When we least expect them? But that doesn't negate all the trauma of going through a divorce. "I'm not going to say I'm not still picking up the pieces and every day isn't a challenge," she admitted. "I'm still in shock. But it's an awesome time."
