Jill Duggar & Derek Dillard Anger Fans by Acting Like the Zika Virus Is No Big Deal

Poor Jill and Derick Dillard -- they just can't seem to be able to do anything right, according some of their followers. But in this case, they might want to show a little more concern when it comes to the health of their family. The Dillards were recently slammed for posting about the Zika Virus, and poking fun at the serious epidemic.

Since last summer, Jill and Derick have been serving as missionaries in El Salvador, one of the countries that's been affected by the mosquito-borne illness. While the symptoms can be mild in adults, they may be devastating to the unborn children of women who contract it.

Speculation has run rampant that the couple is expecting again already, which could be potentially very dangerous for the baby if Jill were to contract Zika. They've been criticized for their decision to stay in Central America, but Derick took to social media in a weird attempt to reassure fans that they're staying safe.

While we do have to commend his stellar beard, we can't help but wonder about his flippant attitude toward Zika. Yes, wearing bug spray is one way to try to keep yourself protected against mosquito bites, but we all know it isn't 100 percent effective.

More from The Stir: Duggar Fans Think Jill & Derick Should Use Their Own Money for Mission Work

Wouldn't it be safer for them to put their mission work on hold for the time being? Lord knows they've already gotten enough grief from being there in the first place. Then again, maybe they've bucked Duggar tradition and are using birth control until the timing is better to have another baby.

Whatever is going on with them, we really do hope that they stay safe and healthy. In the meantime, Derick should probably keep anything that could be considered flippant about a worldwide epidemic to himself.
