1Well-Spoken

Though she's a compelling public speaker today, Caitlyn had dyslexia as a child. Caitlyn wrote about her experience with dyslexia on her official website: "As a dyslexic kid, my biggest fear in life was to go in front of the class and read because I just wasn't very good at it -- and that stays with you through your whole life," she said. To prepare for her big ESPY award speech, Caitlyn said she "practiced, and practiced, and practiced, and practiced," so she’d be able to read the teleprompter.

2Hello, It's Me

The reality star had another name in mind before settling on Caitlyn. In her Vanity Fair interview, Jenner shared that she had previously joked about going on vacation to Denmark and returning to her kids as "Aunt Heather."

It seems like every Kardashian and Jenner has penned a book or two, and Caitlyn is no exception. She's written several books, including Finding the Champion Within, Decathlon Challenge, and The Olympics and Me. Caitlyn is currently writing a memoir with Buzz Bissinger, the author of her Vanity Fair feature.

Unsurprisingly, Jenner was a gifted high school athlete. She played football and basketball, ran track, and even water-skied. What a show-off. We'd just like to be able to keep up in spin class, thank you very much.

5In Memoriam

Caitlyn's younger brother, Burt, was killed in a car accident in 1976. Burt was 18 years old when he passed away in the tragic accident. Caitlyn named her eldest son Burt in her late brother's honor.

6It's Always Darkest Before the Dawn

Caitlyn shared on the Today show that she had her first-ever panic attack after waking up from facial feminization surgery. "My heart was just pounding and this and that," Jenner said. "In my head when I shut my eyes, it was just, like, 'My God, what did you just do?' Because that surgery kind of passed the point of no return." Caitlyn added that she's had "no regrets whatsoever" about her transition since then.

7Breakfast of Champions

Caitlyn is one of only seven Wheaties spokespersons. Her image was featured on the iconic cereal box after she won her gold medal at the 1976 Olympics. The six other Wheaties spokespersons are Bob Richards, Mary Lou Retton, Walter Payton, Chris Evert, Michael Jordan, and Tiger Woods.

It didn't take long for Caitlyn to decide that Kris was marriage material. The two got married after knowing each other for only seven months. Caitlyn and Kris met through a mutual friend -- Steve Garvey's wife, Candace.

Caitlyn attended her alma mater Graceland College on an athletic scholarship, but not for track and field. Caitlyn played football for the college until a knee injury forced her to shift gears. Her track coach advised her to train for the decathlon, and the rest is history.

12Go Speed Racer!

Not content with just being an Olympic gold medalist, Caitlyn embarked on another impressive career in the 1980s as a race car driver. Her accomplishments included finishing second in the 1986 IMSA GT championship.

One of Caitlyn's favorite pastimes is golf. She prefers to play at the exclusive Sherwood Country Club, where she recently was given her own locker in the women's locker room.

15Spell It Out

The spelling of Caitlyn's name was very deliberate. Although Kris and her daughters opted to spell their names with a "K," Caitlyn told Vanity Fair that she thought it was "best to break tradition" by spelling her new name with a "C" instead. Spelling Caitlyn with a "Y" is still a unique choice worthy of a family that tends to spell their names in strange ways.
