She's happily married now, but back when Jessica Simpson was a swingin' single, she reportedly had a fling with Maroon 5 frontman Adam Levine, who ended their romance with a four-word text message send-off: "Really busy. Need Space." Ouch!

  • Katy Perry

The purrfect man would never dump Katy Perry by text, right? Well, that just shows how wrong ex-husband Russell Brand was for our favorite pop star. The 31-year-old singer revealed that Russell informed her their 14-month marriage was over via SMS back in 2011.

  • Jennifer Aniston

We always thought that Jennifer Aniston was way too good for the likes of John Mayer, and the way he dumped her in 2009 proves that point. Reportedly, after a big "where is this going?" talk that didn't end well, the singer sent Jen a text that said "That's it – the end" and literally called it quits on their relationship.

Was it a fauxmance? In retrospect, Carrie Underwood believes that ex Chace Crawford might have dated her in 2008 just for the publicity. That may explain why the country singer described her split from the Gossip Girl actor via text as "like…'peace out.'"

The merry-go-round that was Lindsay Lohan's relationship with Samantha Ronson only reportedly stopped when, in 2009, after a nasty fight, the DJ sent the actress a text that allegedly said: "If you come anywhere near me or my house, I'll make you wish you hadn't. That's all I have to say. You're disgusting."

  • Kim Kardashian

Before Kanye and the 72-day husband whose name we've already forgotten, Kim Kardashian's main squeeze was football player Reggie Bush. The couple dated for two years before Reggie reportedly ended it with the classic line "It's not you. It's me," delivered via text message for added classiness.

  • Gwyneth Paltrow

Take this story with a grain of salt: Rumor had it in July 2015 that Gwyneth Paltrow's first serious relationship since "consciously uncoupling" with ex-husband Chris Martin was over and, get this, the GOOP queen had been dumped by boyfriend Brad Falchuk via text message. Perhaps the story wasn't true or perhaps Gwyn's got a good method for making a guy reconsider, but, regardless, the couple is reportedly still together, so the SMS ditch seemingly didn't take.

  • Kevin Federline

When Britney Spears decided she was done being married to Kevin Federline, apparently she was DONE. The singer reportedly sent her underemployed hubby a text that he read on-camera while being filmed for a reality show. Kevin's stunned expression will live on in YouTube infamy.

When Selena Gomez tried to urge on-again, off-again boyfriend Justin Bieber to go to rehab in 2014, he reportedly sent her nude photos in reply, which apparently was Selena's breaking point and led her to send this harsh text: "We r done. U need to grow the f**k up...I hope you get jail time. U deserve it at this point."

  • Charlie Sheen

Considering his shady behavior over the years, we're not exactly sure why Bree Olson, one of Charlie Sheen's "goddess girlfriends," decided to dump the actor via text message in 2011, but we can't say that we blame her. The two have feuded publicly since then, with Bree claiming that Charlie never disclosed his HIV status and Charlie alleging that Bree is a liar. Given the animosity between them, we're thinking that these two should stick to text message communication only.

  • Ariana Grande

"The worst way I've been broken up with was probably over a text message the opening night of my tour right before I was about to go on stage," revealed Ariana Grande in 2013. And although she didn't name names, fans are pretty sure that the SMS-sending ex was YouTube star Jai Brooks.

  • Perrie Edwards

Ah, young love! It's not always fair, as British singer Perrie Edwards learned in 2015 when her fiancé, Zayn Malik of the boy band One Direction, reportedly called off their engagement with a single text message. The news supposedly came as a shock to Perrie, as the couple had been shopping for homes together only a few months prior. "It's unbelievable, he's an immature little boy with no thought for anyone else's feelings," said a source, who was obviously Team Perrie.

Well, at least there's no hard feelings! Perhaps giving her fodder for her film Trainwreck, comedian Amy Schumer revealed to Howard Stern in 2012 that she dumped boyfriend Dolph Ziggler, a professional WWE wrestler, via text message. The reason why? The sex was "too athletic."
