Taylor Swift Shuts Down Kanye West at the Grammys Over Claims He 'Made Her Famous' (VIDEO)

taylor swiftTaylor Swift has once again managed to escape being pulled into the dizzying downward spiral that is Kanye West, and it once again happened at a music awards show. This time, it was the Grammys, where Swift used her acceptance speech for Album of the Year to gracefully dispute Kanye's song lyric claiming that he made her famous. Mic. Drop!

ICYMI: Kanye and Taylor's age-old feud (which started with Kanye's "Imma let you finish" fiasco at the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards but supposedly ended some months ago when the two made up) was reignited recently when Kanye released the song "Famous," in which he humbly and tactfully declares "I feel like me and Taylor might still have sex/Why, I made that bitch famous." (Um, wasn't she in the process of winning a VMA when you "made her famous," guy? Implying that she was already famous? Anyway.) Following the song's debut, Kanye responded to the instant and completely predictable public outcry by claiming that Taylor was cool with it and gave the lyric her blessing; Taylor's camp, meanwhile, was like HAHAHA, nope

But Taylor waited for the best possible moment -- while accepting her award for Album of the Year for 1989 -- to let Kanye and the world know what she really thinks about the insult(s):

“I want to say to all the young women out there, there are going to be people along the way that will try to undercut your success or take credit for your accomplishments or your fame, but if you just focus on the work and you don’t let those people sidetrack you, someday when you get where you’re going, you’ll look around and you’ll know that it was you and the people who love you that put you there and that will be the greatest feeling in the world.”

Oooh, feel that burn, Kanye?? Probably not, because Taylor was actually being respectful and subtle and eloquent, and Kanye doesn't exactly traffic in subtleties, so the whole thing might have gone over his head, but oh well. Taylor still said what needed to be said, and she said it beautifully, and at least everybody else was listening. Check out the audience reaction in this clip:

Nodding heads all around!! And hey, Taylor, like my grandma always used to say about ridiculously insulting comments from ridiculous people: Take it from whence it comes. Clearly Kanye is making it his job to say insane-o things, and while it's a shame that you keep getting caught up in his crazy, at least it's giving you the opportunity to take a stand against misogyny in the music industry. Even from the "greatest living artist of all time."
