21-Year-Old Joseph Duggar Chooses Life With Jim Bob & Michelle Over College

Yet another 20-something Duggar child has decided to eschew higher education and live at home with parents Jim Bob and Michelle, and work for the family business. Joseph Duggar, 21, is the latest to decide that working for mom and dad at the family compound is preferable to going to college and earning a degree.

Joe Duggar is the first of the 19 Kids and Counting progeny to actually go away to a brick-and-mortar institution rather than taking online courses through the Christian CollegePlus program. He attended Crown Bible College, and while there is a certificate that can be earned in one year, it's not exactly what most of us think of when we think of a college degree.

It's unknown whether Joseph completed the one-year certificate, or if he dropped out of another program, but some of the classes he may have completed include Bible Geography, Personal Evangelism, Introduction to Missions, Living the Christian Life, and Creation Science.

Anyway, the announcement about Joseph's return to the family homestead was made via a happy birthday wish on the Duggars' official Facebook page.

21 years ago on a cold January day God gave us a sweet mellow baby boy, named Joseph, to warm our hearts and bring great joy to our family with his bright smile. Joseph just completed a year at Crown Bible College and is now back working with the Duggar family business doing construction. He now plans to acquire his real estate license and his CDL license.

Of course it could have been his brother Josh's sex scandals that brought him home, but dang, doesn't it seem weird to anyone else that these kids don't leave home until they get married? I mean, marriage is awesome and all, but there's also a life to be had outside of identifying solely as husband, wife, child, or parent.

I wish that Jim Bob and Michelle would encourage their kids to leave the nest and find out who they really are, and what they want to do with their lives. Because they might act like model little citizens when they grow up under their strict control, but if Josh Duggar has taught us anything -- it's that overly controlling your adult children doesn't work.
