Mourning 'The Bravest Man I Ever Knew': Rest in Peace Alan Rickman (VIDEO)

Alan Rickman has died at age 69 from cancer. Parents will probably remember him fondly from movies like Truly, Madly, Deeply (my personal favorite), Sense and Sensibility, and Galaxy Quest -- but our kids grew up with him as Severus Snape in all eight Harry Potter movies.

One of the most lovely moments in the Harry Potter universe is when Harry is comforting his young son who is worried about the sorting hat putting him into Slytherin. Harry tells his son:

Albus Severus, you were named for two headmasters of Hogwarts. One of them was a Slytherin and he was probably the bravest man I ever knew.

It's such a huge loss, and he was so amazingly talented.

This news comes as such a sad shock, especially to all the legions of Harry Potter fans who grew up with him.

J.K. Rowling expressed her grief on Twitter as well.

It's so sad to think we will never see him in movies again. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends.
