Prince William Talks About How Fatherhood Has Changed Him

prince william george kate middletonIt has been so lovely to see Prince William and Kate Middleton and their growing family. Parenthood definitely changes you, and Prince William has opened up about how being a father has changed him.

In a sneak peek for the UK show When Ant and Dec Met the Prince: 40 Years of the Prince's Trust (airing Monday on ITV), the prince said that he is much more emotional than he used to be before he had his little ones -- Charlotte is now 8 months and George is 2. "I never used to get too wound up or worried about things, but now the smallest little things, you well up a little more, you get affected by the sort of things that happen around the world or whatever a lot more, I think, as a father."

I think we can all relate. We worry about the world our children live in -- and to see how precious our little ones are in comparison to the horrible things happening ... well, it does make it all a bit harder in the emotional sense. Sometimes a commercial where a grandpa hugs a baby can reduce me to tears. And with everything that's going on in the world today -- when I think of my kids ... it's hard to even process. We want our kids to grow up in a world of kindness and peace, but then we realize that may not be the case. That's exactly what Will is talking about here.

Parenthood does change you, and I do believe it makes us more empathetic. Our kids are also our teachers, showing us how love is unconditional and smiles can come easy at the simplest of gestures. It's one of the most beautiful things, but can also be the hardest on our hearts. We will always want to protect our little ones, even as they grow up.

I think Will is a wonderful father and Kate is a terrific mother -- I love seeing their sweet moments in photos they share and how they want normalcy for their family and also do so much for others. They are royalty, but they share all the same concerns the rest of us parents do when it comes to their kids and the future. We can all only hope that the kindness in this world ends up winning. For our future ... for our kids.
