Madonna Shares Photo Proving She'll Always Be There for Sean Penn (PHOTO)

madonnaProof that true love never dies: Madonna shared a warm and fuzzy throwback photo with ex-husband Sean Penn just days after she denied that the actor ever hit her in a defamation lawsuit against Empire creator Lee Daniels, who claimed that Penn is abusive against women in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter.

Everybody remembers back in the day when there were all those rumors about Sean Penn hitting Madonna with a baseball bat, right? (Okay, maybe only those of us who are REALLY old, fine.) Anyway, Penn was such a wild man at the time -- and the two had such a tempestuous relationship -- that it wasn't particularly hard to believe. But when Daniels dragged the old story up for the Hollywood Reporter interview as a way to defend Empire actor Terrence Howard (who is currently facing allegations of domestic abuse), it seemed sort of unnecessary. After all, Penn has pretty much made it his mission to be a professional doer of good deeds in the decades since then. But now Madonna is going on the record saying Penn never even abused her -- which is sort of sweet, right? Her declaration reads:

"I am aware of the allegations that have surfaced over the years accusing Sean of incidents of physical assault and abuse against me. Specifically, I am aware of the allegations concerning an alleged incident that occurred in June, 1987, whereby (according to tabloid reports), Sean allegedly struck me with a 'baseball bat.' I know the allegations in those and other reports to be completely outrageous, reckless, and false."

"I am also aware of allegations concerning an incident that occurred in December, 1989, which purportedly resulted in Sean’s arrest for domestic assault and battery against me. I know those allegations to be false. While we certainly had more than one heated argument during our marriage, Sean has never struck me, 'tied me up,' or physically assaulted me, and any report to the contrary is completely outrageous, malicious, reckless, and false."

Well! I guess that settles that! Then, in a further show of support, she posted this oldie but SO goodie to Instagram:

Awww. Does anybody else secretly wish these two would get back together? Probably only ancient '80s kids like me. Still. An old lady can dream, right?
