Jessa Duggar & Ben Seewald Call Each Other 'Mom' & 'Dad' Now

jessa duggar seewaldHaving a baby means making all kinds of life adjustments, both big and small -- like coming to terms with the realization that for the rest of your life, you'll be known as "Mom" (or "Dad")! Most new parents come to accept their new title gradually; after all, it takes babies a while to call their parents anything. But even though little Spurgeon is still just a newborn, Jessa (Duggar) Seewald and husband Ben Seewald are already preparing for Spurgeon's likely first words -- in a rather unconventional way!

As 20-year-old Ben recently told People magazine, he and his 23-year-old wife are taking their new roles so seriously that they're engaging in a little ongoing role-play/name-calling exercise: calling each other "Mom" and "Dad" instead of "Jessa" and "Ben." Or, as he put it:

"Jessa and I are trying to call each other Mom and Dad just so this whole being-parents thing can sink in a little."

Interesting approach!

Personally, when I think of a married couple addressing each other as "Mom" and "Dad," I picture an older husband and wife, maybe living on a farm in Kansas somewhere. You know: The dude's wearing overalls and holding a pitchfork, the lady's got an apron on and her hands are all covered in flour. And he's all, "How's the apple pie coming, Mom?" and she's all, "You just worry about getting that hay baled, Dad!" And everybody laughs.

Actually, now that I think about it, those two would probably call each other "Ma" and "Pa," but you get my point -- it's sort of an unexpected speech pattern for a couple in their early 20s to adopt. But hey, that's cool! It's even kind of cute. In a super wholesome, retro sort of way, of course.
