Jessa Duggar May Have Experienced 'Complications' During Her Home Birth

jessa duggarJessa (Duggar) Seewald may have been trying for a home birth, but that doesn't mean the 23-year-old reality star's blessed event didn't require any medical intervention: TMZ is reporting that an ambulance was called to the Duggar home in Fayetteville, Arkansas, where Jessa was in labor.

It's not entirely clear what exactly happened or where the baby boy (whose name has not yet been revealed) was actually born (a photo from the family's blog showing dad Ben Seewald holding the baby in front of a closet in a house would seem to suggest that the actual birth took place at home). But sources say there were "complications" and that Jessa needed to be rushed to the hospital. Perhaps the baby's considerable size -- 9 lbs and 11 oz -- had something to do with it? Jessa's mom, Michelle Duggar, is said to be the one who made the 911 call -- and that woman certainly has enough experience with childbirth to know when medical assistance is necessary.

Either way, it seems as if everything is fine now; as Ben posted on their blog, “Our sweet baby boy was born last night. He weighed 9 lbs and 11 ounces and is 21 1/4 inches long! He’s precious and both he and Jessa are doing great.”

And to be sure, everybody looks fabulous in this first family portrait:

Congrats, guys! That's a beautiful baby right there! And of course it doesn't matter how the little guy arrived -- with medical assistance or without, at the hospital or at home -- the point is that he's here and healthy!
