Jill Duggar & Derick Dillard Offer to Give Missionary Money Back to Donors

Another day with the Duggars, another controversy. This one doesn't involve Josh, though -- thank goodness. Jill and Derick Dillard have come under fire recently, as fans have questioned how the couple have spent their funds for their purported missionary work when they don't actually seem to be spending much time in Central America. The Dillards have responded by offering to give back donations to those who request it.

It was recently discovered that the pair were unable to become affiliate missionaries with their church or other large mission networks because of lack of qualifications. Even though Derick is a CPA with an undergrad degree, and Jill has her midwifery licence, neither has taken the prerequisite religious courses to become recognized missionaries with any established organizations.

My guess is that this couple jumped the gun last spring when the fit hit the shan about Josh's molestation charges from the early 2000s. Jill self-identified as one of his victims (along with sister Jessa), so I don't blame her for wanting to get the heck out of the country.

Unfortunately, it doesn't look like these two did their homework, because they didn't meet the prerequisites to become qualified missionaries. They are presumably still going forward with their plan, but it's unknown whether they will return to Central America or stay in Arkansas with family for the time being.

More from The Stir: Jill Duggar Has Some Explaining to Do After Taking Money for a Missionary Trip the Church Isn't Even Behind

After fans have repeatedly asked for their money back after donating to the couple's trip/mission/vacation/whatever they're calling it at this point, Jill and Derick have added a "request a refund" button on their donation page on their website.

For the loyal followers, though, there's still an option to donate. Let's just hope those funds are being put to good use, so they can continue to follow their dream of becoming missionaries. They might need some more training, but it seems like their hearts are in the right place. Next time, though, they should read the fine print first.
