Kate Hudson Actually Called Off Her Engagement for a Very Good Reason

Kate Hudson explains broken engagementMaking a relationship work can have its challenges -- especially if you're always in the public eye. And we're always wondering the reason a couple decides to call it quits. Well, Kate Hudson is now ready to share why she never made it down the aisle with former fiancé Matt Bellamy.

The 36-year-old told Allure that she and the English musician -- who fathered her second son, Bingham -- had "different visions of how we wanted to live our lives."

That makes sense. Compromising can be crucial, and with both of them having busy careers, if they don't want the same things for the future, it's better to recognize it early than be miserable for years to come.

The stunning actress says she's well aware the importance of co-parenting and that for the sake of 4-year-old Bing, she and Bellamy have stayed friendly. Kate has practice with co-parenting, as she shares 11-year-old son Ryder with Black Crowes frontman Chris Robinson. She explains:

We need to try to create something for the kids where they feel like they're gaining something rather than losing something.

Still, we can't help but wonder about the "vision" for her future that Kate was referencing. She's been spotted out and about with the adorable 23-year-old Nick Jonas. Perhaps the mom of two is single because she isn't quite ready to settle down just yet!

That said, she isn't ruling out her boys' having a stepfather some day. The daughter of Goldie Hawn credits Hawn's longtime love Kurt Russell with providing a constant presence in her life. Awww, that's really sweet.

Now imagine having Nick Jonas as your stepdad? That gives new meaning to his hit song "Jealous"!
