'N Sync Then & Now: Find Out What They're Up to Now! (PHOTOS)

Nanci Theoret | Oct 23, 2015 Celebrities

Our moms had the Beatles, the Bee Gees, and the Bay City Rollers (don’t ask). But for us tweens and teens in the 1990s, it was all about 'N Sync, Justin, JC, and their boy band mates. We could barely wait for their latest CD (remember those?) and practiced every choreographed step in our bedrooms (or was that just me?). The group went on to become one of the bestselling boy bands of all time, and were considered the most successful at the time.

So when they disbanded in 2002, some of us were completely devastated. So where are they now, years later? Click through and find out!

  • Lance Bass: Then

    1

Justin Timberlake personally recruited Bass, then a high school junior, as the bass vocalist for 'N Sync in 1995. Producers almost booted the Mississippian out of the band after his failed attempts at dancing and mastering the group's choreography. He eventually got it.

After years of speculation, Bass came out in a July 2006 People cover story and married Michael Turchin in 2014. He also proved he had all the right moves, placing third during season seven of Dancing with the Stars. Bass hosts Dirty Pop with Lance Bass on Sirius XM, trained for an unsuccessful mission to the International Space Station (his investors backed out), and as of October is a permanent member of The Meredith Vieira Show’s on-air team.

  • Justin Timberlake: Then

    3

Long before he brought sexy back, the Tennessee-born JT was a tween actor, a Mouseketeer, and a country crooner on Star Search. The youngest member of 'N Sync, Timberlake became a household name when the band burst onto the music scene in 1998. He dated (and lived with) fellow Mickey Mouse Club member Britney Spears for a while and pursued a solo career following the group’s 2002 Celebrity tour.

By far the most successful boy bander ever, the multitasking new father and husband of Jessica Biel is also an actor (awesome in 2006's Alpha Dog), a clothing designer, a restaurateur, and the recipient of nine Grammy and four Emmy Awards. He was named among Time’s 100 most influential people in the world in 2007 and 2013 -- even after exposing his idol Janet Jackson’s breast during the notorious Super Bowl "nip slip" in 2004. We love his cameos and guest host appearances on SNL and his award-winning D*** in a Box short with SNL alumni Andy Samberg.

  • JC Chasez: Then

    5

Chasez shared the spotlight with Justin Timberlake as one of 'N Sync’s two lead vocalists. An alumnus of The Mickey Mouse Club with JT and Britney Spears, JC was singled out by his old friend to audition for the new all-male singing group, and earned acclaim for both his vocals and songwriting.

  • JC Chasez: Now

    6

Always the bridesmaid -- industry insiders have long lamented that JC was the strongest vocalist but was consistently overshadowed by his former co-singer Timberlake. Some of it was just bad timing. Chasez was scheduled to perform from his only solo album during halftime at the 2004 Pro Bowl. It was canceled after the infamous Timberlake and Janet Jackson Super Bowl performance just weeks earlier.

  • Chris Kirkpatrick (Then)

    7

We'll never forget Kirkpatrick's 1999 'do — Muppet-like hair stacked high on his head with pure-white frosting. CK was attending Rollins College in Orlando and performing at Universal Studios when he was tapped for the band. He eventually cut his hair, sang lead vocals on 1999’s I Drive Myself Crazy, and often played the funnyman in 'N Sync videos.

  • Chris Kirkpatrick (Now)

CK turned 44 in October and said Bye Bye Bye to bachelorhood in 2013, marrying longtime girlfriend Karly Skladany. His former bandmates had his back; all of them served as ushers. Since 'N Sync, Kirkpatrick has appeared in music videos by Good Charlotte and A Day to Remember, channeled his country crooning in the second season of CMT’s Gone Country 2 in 2008, and begun voice acting while playing himself on The Simpsons.

  • Joey Fatone (Then)

    9

Known for his famously bleached-blond highlights (although he sometimes switched to red), Fatone was the band’s resident baritone. He was discovered while performing with his future 'N Sync bandmate Chris Kirkpatrick in a doo-wop group at Universal Studios in Orlando.

He’s been busy since the band’s breakup, placing second in the 2007 season of Dancing with the Stars, hosting The Singing Bee, and becoming a proud papa of daughters Briahna, 14, and Kloey, 5, with wife Kelly. Fatone is the host of Family Feud and several programs on the Food Network.
