Jessa Duggar's Reaction to Brother Josh's Cheating Scandal Is Exactly What We Expected

jessa deewaldWhen your family is rocked by a huge scandal, how do you cope? If you're a Duggar, apparently, you turn to God. At least that's what Jessa Duggar's doing in the wake of her brother Josh's latest sex scandal (the first of which involved Jessa herself being molested).

"You just have to keep your focus and trust God," 22-year-old Jessa told People on Saturday at the Southern Women's Show in Charlotte, North Carolina. Jessa was at the show to promote her book, Growing Up Duggar: It's All About Relationships (one has to wonder whether Duggar would have written a very, very different book if all of this Josh-related news had broken a year or so ago). Her husband, Ben Seewald, echoed her piously hopeful sentiments, saying:

"You have to stay true to yourself and your foundation," said 20-year-old Ben during a Q&A.

Well, sure -- what else are they gonna say? "Well, you just have to realize that your brother is a huge creep and the way your parents raised you in the equivalent of a religious cult"?

Jessa's entire world -- everything she grew up believing, the very foundation of her identity -- has been blown apart in a matter of months. And if her family seems strained to outsiders, can you imagine how tense and chaotic things really are behind the scenes? She's clearly trying to make the best of the situation without completely cutting ties with her past and her loved ones. Will her strategy work in the long run? Maybe, maybe not. But I hope something helps her to truly make sense of this and move on, because she certainly deserves to.
