Remembering Princess Diana: 12 Ways William & Kate Continue to Honor Her (PHOTOS)

kate middleton prince williamEighteen years ago on August 31, 1997, Princess Diana was killed in a car crash in Paris. Her sons were young -- Prince William was 15 and Prince Harry only 12 -- and they have said that not a day goes by when they don't think of her. They continue to honor their mother, and that tribute is very evident in the actions of Prince William and Kate Middleton.

These tributes to the lovely princess are in ways big and small -- from their style and manners to their family values. It's also very clear Kate admires the mother-in-law she never met. Here are some of the beautiful ways Will and Kate honor Princess Diana.

  • By giving the princess her name.

Princess Charlotte Elizabeth Diana was born on May 2, 2015. She's the first daughter of Will and Kate. Seeing the name Diana in this little sweetheart's name is heartwarming -- it's such a beautiful tribute.

  • In the location of the Royal Christening.

Princess Charlotte was baptized at the Church of St. Mary Magdalene in Norfolk, England. The location was chosen because it is the same church Diana was baptized in back in 1961.

  • In Kate's style.

It may be true that what drew William to Kate was that she was similar to his late mother. While they do not look alike, they do share a great sense of style. Both very elegant and quite fashionable, sharing a love for both feminine and casual looks.

  • By choosing Diana's favorites.

Mario Testino was one of Diana's favorite photographers and he captured some of the most beautiful images of the late princess. It is Testino who Will and Kate called upon to take the first official photos of the family at Princess Charlotte's christening.

  • Keeping Diana's family involved.

This is quite sweet -- Princess Charlotte's godmother is Diana's niece, Laura Fellowes. She is the daughter's of Diana's sister Jane.

  • With Kate's engagement ring.

The story goes that Diana left the 18-carat sapphire and diamond ring to Prince Harry, but when Prince William told his brother that he was going to propose to Kate Middleton, Harry knew she had to have their mother's ring. Will said, "Obviously, she's not going to be around to share in any of the fun and excitement of it all, so this is my way of keeping her sort of close to it all."

  • By wearing more of Diana's jewelry.

It has been said that Kate doesn't just wear Diana's engagement ring as her own; she has been spotted in earrings that look very much like ones Diana wore. I'm sure it was a beautiful moment when any of Diana's items were given to Kate. Kate must feel such a feeling of closeness from the late princess even though they never met.

  • In their mannerisms.

Prince William always seemed shy and reserved like his mother; and Kate seems to be the same way. Even in the way she carries herself, she reminds me of Diana -- with elegance and a kind heart, always extending herself in a warm way to the people she meets.

  • By listening to secret audio tapes and learning from them.

It was reported that Diana left secret tapes to her sons, and even one for the wife of her sons, offering advice. What a beautiful gift for this family. In these tapes, Diana stressed the importance to work on your marriage and also wished her sons' marriages to be "free from the dark shadow divorce casts." It's clear Kate and Will heed her advice.

  • In their choice of charity work.

Diana was such a lovely princess and she did a lot for children around the world. Kate has the same kind of heart -- and her charity work is very focused on helping children as well.

  • In the way they parent.

Kare is a very hands-on mother, much like Diana was. Diana was believed to be one of the first royals to breastfeed -- and that is what Kate is believed to be doing as well. Both women put their children first.

  • In keeping their family close.

Princess Diana went all over the world with her kids -- this is something Kate and Will are doing as well. They want to stay connected as a family, sharing duties and always finding time for each other. These are things Diana taught them -- Will as a child, and both of them through her tapes and legacy.
