There’s Apparently a Family ‘More Extreme’ Than the Duggars & Anna Grew Up in It

The Duggar family has a reputation for being a bit extreme (to put it mildly). Not only do they have more than a dozen and a half kids, their conservative Christian values have led them to lead lifestyles that seem bizarre to most of us. According to sources, there's a family even more extreme than the Duggars, and Josh's wife Anna grew up in it.

Before she became Anna Duggar in 2008, she was Anna Keller, one of eight children born to Mike and Suzette Keller. She had a strict upbringing similar to the Duggar children, which included homeschooling, and absolutely no dating.

An insider told People magazine, "Her parents are even a little more extreme ... Anna and her siblings were always taught that if you follow these 10 steps or whatever, God would bless you."

Even after she and Josh met in 2006 (at a homeschooling convention, natch), she reportedly wasn't allowed to openly crush on him. "That's not something that's shared amongst siblings," the source revealed. "They always got 15-minute, one-on-one sessions with their mom every week. That was the time to share their feelings, but other than that they had to keep their feelings to themselves."

Fifteen minutes for feelings a week? For teenage girls? Does that seem like a recipe for disaster to anyone else?

Despite their parents' strict style, the Keller siblings were very close, especially Anna and her youngest sister Susanna. "Growing up, they were attached at the hip," said the insider. "They did everything together."

Although some of her siblings have spoken out about their desire for Anna to divorce Josh, others believe that the Keller parents will encourage her to stand by her man. The phrase "divorce won't even be discussed" has popped up more than once since Josh's cheating ways were exposed last week.

However, there may be hope for Anna yet. The source revealed that another sister, Rebecca, is going through her own divorce, and the family even supported Susanna when she had a child out of wedlock.

"I don't think her parents ever thought they would ever come to a situation like this," said the source close to Anna. "They just don't know what to do ... They always taught their kids that divorce was never an option. They never even thought about cheating. But that's not how life works."

Life has a way of knocking us flat on our butts sometimes. I hope that Anna's parents decide to support their daughter, no matter what she decides. The choice is hers, and hers alone.
