Jada Pinkett Smith Called Out for Dating Will Smith While He Was Still Married
When it comes to couples with staying power -- especially being a Hollywood couple together for decades -- Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith are OGs. They have over 20 years in the game as husband and wife and are considered #couplesgoals by many ... that is, until now. Outlets are reporting that Jada Pinkett Smith "regrets" dating Will while he was still married. And some folks are losing their edges -- calling the actress a "home-wrecker" and everything between. (Yikes.) But as with all things, there's more to this story that could have you pushing your judgment aside.
On her new Facebook series Red Table Talk, Jada sat down with Will's ex-wife Sheree Fletcher and confessed one of her biggest regrets about initially dating Will.
Will and Sheree married back in 1992 -- welcoming son Trey that same year -- before divorcing in 1995. The blockbuster mega star went on to marry Jada in 1997 and added to their blended family, welcoming son Jaden in 1998, and daughter Willow in 2000.
"Because I did not understand marriage, [and] I did not understand divorce, I will say that I probably should've fell back," Jada revealed.
"You think?" Will's ex responded.
Jada later goes on to clarify her sentiments about trying to jump into the driver's seat of parenting Sheree's then-3-year-old son Trey, and respecting her boundaries:
"Being a married woman, if Will and I were to get divorced now, my God. So when I think back about where I was -- some of my insensitivities [and] inconsideration just in regards to you guys unwinding a marriage. And then me trying to get in there like, ' alright now, so we got Trey, okay, so this [is] what we need to do.'
".... One thing that Will has always been really clear about, which is really beautiful, is the mother dynamic. Basically, his position was, 'I'm always willing to hear, I'm open ears ... but you have to understand she's Trey's mother.'"
Welp, it seems some folks across the interwebs aren't too pleased with Jada's admission.
The reaction might be mixed, but the shade is definitely real.
It's worth a note that Sheree admitted during her chat with Jada that she was the one who left Will -- before Jada came into the picture.
"I chose to walk away from the marriage. That's a choice that I made," Sheree told Jada on the show. "And even to this day, thinking that I broke up a family, I didn't give Trey what I wanted for him. I didn't give him what he needed. I didn't give him what his brother and sister [Jaden and Willow] have. That's hard ... but that's what I have to live with."
Though People reports Jada and Will started dating while he was still married, the actor was very much separated from Sheree at the time -- hopefully dispelling any hearsay that Jada was the wedge that caused them to divorce.
This family worked hard to come together for the sake of their children in the most beautiful of ways.
"Thank you for loving my baby," Sheree told Jada. "Isn't it something how we can relate because of Trey?" she later continued. "And I'll tell you, on this side of things, my son could not have a better bonus mom."
