Alec Baldwin & Daughter Ireland Poke Fun at That Time He Called Her a Pig

Eight years ago, a voicemail Alec Baldwin left for his daugther Ireland went viral after being leaked -- because people want to hear it when a celebrity dad screams at his 11-year-old that she's a "rude, thoughtless pig." But a recent post on Ireland Baldwin's Instagram suggests that the two have put the incident behind them.

The maximum-decibel and oh-so-abusive voicemail Baldwin left after his daughter missed a call from him back in 2007 was in the middle of a heated custody dispute between him and ex-wife Kim Basinger, and he later issued a public apology (albeit one in which he laid part of the blame on Basinger for the profanity-laced tirade he unleashed on their 11-year-old daughter, rather than acknowledging the abusive nature of his words):

You answer or you get hit with a brick. ... Pick up the goddamn phone. You got a call coming in, you think I made it because I've got nothing better to do? I could be shouting shit at random people on the street, but I'm calling you. I don't care that you're twelve or eleven or whatever, are you pig enough to pick it up? I'm a good father, and you're a pig. I don't give a sh*t. Good father. You think this is abuse? You think this is abuse, you thoughtless pain in the ass? AIDA. Get mad you daughter-of-a-b*tch.

The rant has continued to haunt Ireland Baldwin; as recently as two years ago, she posted on her Tumblr to tell people to stop throwing the "pig" moniker in her face, and to stop comparing her to her more petite mother. "I AM NOT MY PARENTS," she wrote, and told the Internet at large to move on from the incident.

Hopefully the appearance of this "If I Were a Pig ..." picture, with the caption "... I would be rude and thoughtless, of course!", to Ireland's Instagram means that she's been able to truly put this incident behind her. Which hopefully also means that Alec Baldwin is managing his anger properly these days. And it hopefully means that he's given her a better apology in private that the hot mess he issued in public. If they're able to laugh about it now, maybe Ireland, at age 19, is finally in a place in life where she feels more free from her parents' shadows and more comfortable in her relationships with them. (Let's be real, though: I do find it a little gross that she was the butt of the "thoughtless pig" joke here, and not the guy who screamed at an 11-year-old to tell her mother to "go f*ck herself.") I wish the Baldwins the best, and I hope that everything really is as hunky-dory as it appears on Instagram.
