Jill & Jessa Duggar's Spinoff Show Is Not Happening & It's All Jim Bob's Fault

Long before 19 Kids and Counting was pulled off the TLC airwaves, the idea of a spin-off involving some of the Duggar kids has been floating around. Apparently, a new Duggar show about Jill and Jessa has ended before it even started, and according to sources, it's because of Jim Bob Duggar's jealousy over his own children.

Everything seemed to be pointing to a Duggar spin-off involving daughters Jill Dillard and Jessa Seewald, who both married in 2014. Jill and her hubby Derick welcome little Israel David earlier this year, and Jessa and Ben are expecting their own child this fall.

What could be better than a show involving these gorgeous young mamas as they begin their own little families after growing up in such a large one? Most of the ratings highlights of the past couple of seasons has come from them anyway -- especially their weddings and Jill's birth special.

It just seems like a natural progression to move away from the 19 Kids and Counting we're used to after Josh's molestation scandal, to a new format with Jill and Jessa, who happen to be two of their brother's victims. Doesn't it make sense to give these girls the opportunity to stay on TV if they want after everything they've been through? Especially considering that they're two of the most watchable Duggars?

But apparently Jim Bob Duggar, the family patriarch, has put his foot down about his children appearing on TV after his own show was cancelled. An insider told People magazine, "He absolutely wanted to be back on TV and was never thrilled about the show suddenly shifting focus."

In fact, the source claims that one of the reasons Jill and Derick suddenly moved to Central America to become missionaries was because they wanted to avoid the family conflict over who got to appear on TV at all costs. "And with that, one half of any potential new show was gone," the insider explained.

As for Jessa, the source said she "is clearly [one of the stars] in the family: beautiful, smart, strong-willed ... She may be slightly more free-spirited than your average Duggar, but she is firmly and centrally a part of the family, as is her husband."

I think Jim Bob better be careful about controlling his adult children, if he really is the reason that Jill and Jessa aren't doing their own show. They are their own people, with their own interesting lives to lead, and I for one would love to watch a show about them raising their own young families after growing up in such a large one. Let Jana and Jinger in on it too -- those four sisters have a lot to offer, and they definitely shouldn't be punished because their brother was an idiot teenager over a dozen years ago.
