Princess Charlotte Will Share Sweet Bond With Prince George at Her Christening

Prince george christening gown

Steeped in tradition, the baptism of Princess Charlotte has so many wonderful nods to those in her family including the fact that she will likely be wearing the same outfit that her brother, Prince George, wore at his christening. When you are royalty, you don't get your own outfit in times like these -- it's all about history and in this case, generations of it.

More From The Stir: Princess Charlotte's Official Christening Photo Will Be Fit for a Queen

The christening gown is a replica of one that 62 royal babies wore -- including the Queen, Prince Charles, and Prince William. Wow -- 62 babies! But even though it was meticulously cared for and washed only in spring water, the original became too fragile and so a new one was made in the same fashion. It's the very same one Prince George wore (seen here) -- lots of lace and ruffles. I love the ivory color -- so soft and delicate. It has a long train, too. How lovely. I'm right now not regretting my decision to save many of the clothes my kids wore for special events. Hand-me-downs like this can be magical.

I can't wait to see Princess Charlotte in this gown -- it's very sweet that both siblings are wearing the same exact one. It's going to be one of those photographic moments that they can compare when they get older. And then see their dad in the original version of it ... and grandma. So adorable.

Charlotte's baptism will also have the family gathering at St. Mary Magdalene Church at Sandringham, the very same church where Princess Diana was christened. What a beautiful way to honor Charlotte's grandmother.

What do you think of the royal christening gown tradition?
