Kate Hudson Disowned by Her Dad & Maybe She's Better Off This Way

Kate Hudson's dad, Bill Hudson, has never been in danger of winning any father-of-the-year awards (that's why Kate and her brother Oliver have long considered mom Goldie Hawn's man, Kurt Russell, to be their "real" dad). But after years of hard feelings and harsh words (including a "tell-all" book about his estranged family), Bill's latest message to his children is his most abrasive and hurtful yet.

In response to Oliver Hudson's (admittedly kinda mean) anti-Father's Day Instagram (he posted a pic of himself and Kate as kids with their dad and the caption "Happy Abandonment Day"), Bill said he doesn't even consider Kate and Oliver to be his children anymore -- and that he wishes they would stop using the Hudson name! In an interview with the Daily Mail, Hawn's 65-year-old ex said the post was like a "dagger to his heart," adding:

"If what he wanted was me out of their lives, then he’s succeeded. I don’t want to see either of my eldest children ever again. It’s over.

I say to them now, 'I set you free.' I had five birth children but I now consider myself a father of three. I no longer recognize Oliver and Kate as my own. I would ask them to stop using the Hudson name. They are no longer a part of my life. Oliver’s Instagram post was a malicious, vicious, premeditated attack. He is dead to me now. As is Kate. I am mourning their loss even though they are still walking this earth."

Dear God! How could any father every say anything like that about his children ... over a mean Instagram post?! As a mother of three, I can't even wrap my head around the idea. Especially when Bill Hudson should consider himself lucky to get any attention from his kids at all at this point!

I mean, sure, I don't know any of the Hudsons personally, and maybe he's not as bad a guy as the tabloids make him out to be, but to say you never want to see your children again ... I have to believe he said those things out of spite and doesn't really feel that way. Or maybe he does, and that's exactly why Kate and Oliver don't have any contact with the guy! Good call, Kate and Oliver, if that's the case.

Do you think Bill Hudson's comments were unnecessarily cruel?
