The relationship a grandfather has with his grandchild can be really special, and despite all the quirks with the Royals, it's clear that Prince Charles is completely smitten with grandson Prince George. Now that the little heir is almost 2-years-old, there are so many things he can do with Prince Grandpa ... including planting trees. It's a Royal tradition!

Planting a tree is one of the sweetest things -- the family can watch it grow as the child grows. Someday, years from now, when the tree is tall and grown, the child will be, too. I marveled just last weekend at the tree I planted with my family when I was 14 years old. It's massive now. I'm certain the royal photographer documented the whole thing -- at least I hope so. This is the kind of moment you can compare to future years, while standing in front of the same tree. So sweet.

This all happened on the grass of Prince Charles country estate, the Highgrove House. An insider said:

George recently helped his granddad plant a balsam poplar tree and a winter orange lime tree. They love to garden together.

Charles is having someone come in to renovate it so George can soon play in it too!

So while the Royals are often busy being stuffy and in white gloves practicing fencing and having tea (I'm guessing), they are also very content showing affection and making sweet memories with their family. In this case, Charles has melted my heart by the love he has for his grandson. Can't wait to see what's next when his granddaughter Princess Charlotte gets a little older.

What do you think of the Royals' tree planting tradition? Does Prince Charles' sweet grandpa behavior surprise you?
