John Cusak says President Obama Is Just as Bad as Bush

Heh. President Obama isn't exactly very popular these days ... and according to at least one Hollywood actor -- even worse than President Bush! Or, at least, just as bad. You know things are bad when someone in traditionally liberal Tinseltown throws your policies under the bus, but that's just what John Cusack did in a recent interview.

In an interview with The Daily Beast to promote his upcoming film, Love & Mercy, the celebrated actor was asked his opinion on the job President Obama is doing, and what he had to say likely wasn't what anyone expected.

The interviewer first admired Cusack's lack of filter when it comes to current events, to which he responded:

No, I don’t care about any of that shit. All those people are just full of hot air and networking and stuff. If you’re speaking out about basic Rubicon lines that should or shouldn’t be crossed, if you can’t be against state-sanctioned murder being made acceptable or economic policy, making the difference between language and meaning so absurd that Orwell and Kafka laugh, these are not heavy-duty things, these are just basic, Cartesian things. They’re common sense, and were debated constitutionally a long time ago.

Whoa. That was quite a mouthful -- I guess he just proved that he really doesn't have a filter! While I may disagree with his line about "state-sanctioned murder being made acceptable," as I tend to be in favor of capital punishment, I was intrigued to see what else he might have to say about politics.

The interviewer asked what he thought about Vince Vaughn's recent comments about guns being allowed in schools to protect students and administration against would-be mass shooters, and he said, "That's not the kind of debate where you want to do a tit-for-tat with what two celebrities think about it, and in order to talk about it you have to do it in an in-depth way -- you need to follow the money and see what the politics are. But no, I think that’s a bad idea."

Hmmm ... he doesn't think it's a bad idea? Well what in the world does he think about Obama's policies then? I cannot imagine our current president being OK with guns in schools, even if they are only handled by screened, trained professionals.

CNN conducted a poll recently that concluded that George W. Bush's approval rating is now higher than Obama's, an impressive feat considering how many people ended up basically hating Bush at the end there. But Cusack more or less agreed with the findings. He said:

Well, Obama has certainly extended and hardened the cement on a lot of Bush’s post-9/11 Terror Inc. policies, so he’s very similar to Bush in every way that way. His domestic policy is a bit different, but when you talk about drones, the American Empire, the NSA, civil liberties, attacks on journalism and whistleblowers, he’s as bad or worse than Bush. He hasn’t started as many wars, but he’s extended the ones we had, and I don’t even think Dick Cheney or Richard Nixon would say the president has the right to unilaterally decide whom he can kill around the world. On Tuesdays, the president can just decide whom he wants to kill, and you know, since 9/11 there are magic words like "terror," and if you use magic words, you can justify any power grab you want.

Holy crappus -- did he just call Obama power-hungry? I have to give John Cusack a round of applause for not silencing his views because it's expected of him as an actor. Hollywood is notoriously liberal, and has infamously shunned those who don't agree with liberal ideology, so it's refreshing to see someone speak how they really feel.

Do you think Obama is as bad or worse than Bush?
