What Does Caitlyn Jenner's Mom Think of Her New Daughter? Well ...

When Caitlyn Jenner made her debut on Monday, June 1, everyone had an opinion -- including her mom. Esther Jenner has previously stated that she was more proud of her son now than she was when he won the Olympic decathlon in 1976, but how does she feel now that Bruce has officially transitioned into Caitlyn?

The 88-year-old told Access Hollywood that she's all for the change, but that she can't get past the name she gave Bruce on the day he was born.

"I still have to call him Bruce. His father and I named him that," she said. "It's going to be a struggle for me to get used to the change, but happily so ... I'm very happy for him -- or her!"

I love that she corrected herself to say "her," even though she still wants to call her "new daughter" Bruce. She said that she got to meet Caitlyn ahead of the rest of the world too. "I was there last week, well actually, I got home a week and a half ago," she said. "And I met Caitlyn. She is ... so much more at ease."

Esther did say that Caitlyn is "beautiful," and also that she remind her of her granddaughter, Caitlyn's niece. She confessed, "You know who she reminds me of, my granddaughter Samantha. There is a lot of Sam!"

As for Caitlyn, she told Vanity Fair in her cover story, "If I was lying on my deathbed and I had kept this secret and never ever did anything about it, I would be lying there saying, 'You just blew your entire life.'"

I'm so glad that Caitlyn's mom is happy for her, when things could have gone so much differently. During the Diane Sawyer interview, Bruce was very uncomfortable discussing what he imagined his late father's reaction would be to his transition, so we can only imagine how painful that would have been. It's nice to know that his mom is totally supportive -- even if she can't break the habit of calling her child Bruce.

Are you surprised by how cool Caitlyn Jenner's mom is being with her transition?
