Robert Pattinson's Next Role Is a Far Cry From a Vampire

Is Robert Pattinson trying to break away from the his Twilight image once and for all? We're used to seeing the English hottie in brooding roles so far, but his latest one might take us completely by surprise. According to Just Jared, RPatz has agreed to play a surfer in the upcoming flick The Trap.

Yeah, I can't see Edward Cullen on a surfboard either. The movie synopsis seems to be plenty edgy enough, but a surfer? How is that going to work?

The Trap will be directed by Harmony Korine, whom Pattinson has openly admired in the past. It will also star Idris Elba, Benicio Del Toro, Al Pacino, and James Franco. Idris has been making headlines for the film too, as he replaced the formerly-attached Jamie Foxx for the lead role.

According to reports, Elba will play Rico, a gangster rap artist in Miami, while Del Toro will play his former best friend Slim. After 14 years behind bars for a robbery Rico committed, Slim comes looking for his revenge.

More from The Stir: Kristen Stewart's Next Role May Scare More Fans Than 'Twilight' Did

Pattinson comes in as an "uzi-wielding" surfer named Max, who helps Slim get his revenge on Rico, who is married to his girlfriend and raising his son. Yup, I'd want revenge on that too! Especially in the form of an uzi-toting surfer played by Robert Pattinson. Just saying.

It seems like it's going to be an interesting role, that's for sure, and Rob probably couldn't get further away from sparkly vampires if he tried. As much as we hate to admit it, it seems as though he and Kristen Stewart really are moving on from each other and from Twilight. Stewart just signed onto a Woody Allen movie, which is pretty far away from her breakout role as Bella Swan.

Do you think Robert Pattinson is trying to distance himself from Twilight?
