One Thing Might Save Bobbi Kristina Brown's Life

Bobbi Kristina BrownBobbi Kristina Brown has been in a medically-induced coma for weeks now and her prognosis is not looking good at all. However, a doctor who is not treating her says that she could still live, and that is because there is one major thing working in her favor -- her youth.

Dr. Rafael Ortiz of Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City told the New York Daily News:

In someone young we definitely give her a chance to recover as much as possible, so it is not surprising that they're keeping her sedated for a long time.

Reportedly, 22-year-old Bobbi Kristina's doctors are keeping her medically sedated in a risky strategy to allow her brain swelling to eventually subside and then try to slowly bring her out of the coma. They reportedly already did that once, but she began having seizures. Still, they are hopeful that youth is on her side.

The problem is that even hopeful still sounds dire when it comes to Bobbi Kristina. Dr. Ortiz says she may regain functions such as breathing and blinking, but she would still be considered to be in a vegetative state. It would be up to the family to decide what to do.

This is so tragic because even if she did regain functions such as those, it's unclear if Bobbi would want to live like that. It's doubtful that at such a young age she had a living will or discussion with anyone about her wishes.

And yet if she does regain some ability to move and breath, it would at that point be impossible for the family to choose to end her life. Ugh, what an awful mess.

It's a good lesson that young people are not exempt from tragedies and it's a prudent idea for parents to sit their teen or young adult child down and ask about his or her wishes.

What would you do in this situation with your child?
