Hilary Duff Gets Totally Real About Her Failed Marriage to Mike Comrie

Hilary DuffNewly single Hilary Duff recently opened up to Cosmopolitan magazine about the decline of her marriage, why she thinks her ex-boyfriend Aaron Carter is like Chris Brown, and why she thinks marriage shouldn't be forever. Basically, she dished on everything!

It's been awhile since we've heard from this chick, but it only makes sense that she's opening up after finally filing for divorce from Mike Comrie.

Even though she officially called it quits by filing, Hilary still has lovely things to say about the father of her 2-year-old son Luca. She shared with the mag, "Mike and I were very in love when we met. We both really wanted to get married. I'd been working since the age of 11 or 12, so making that choice at a young age seemed right for me. Maybe it wasn't, but we spent the majority of our time together really happy. It wasn't working well enough to stay together, but there was still a lot of love involved. It was just a slow set-in of us not being the match that we used to be. I'm lucky for the person he is and I am, and how we decided to handle this."

Hilary was only 23 when she tied the knot, which is definitely young -- especially if you've spent the majority of your formative years in front of a camera. It makes total sense that she wanted to get married young and start a family, and it also makes sense now that she's decided the relationship wasn't what she thought it was.

Sometimes things just don't work out. Hilary's view of marriage has definitely shifted since she said, "I do," and she now seems disenfranchised by the whole endeavor.

She confessed, "I don't want to sound bitter because I'm definitely not, but I don't know if people are meant to be together forever. Things happen over a long relationship that you can't always fight. A marriage of 20 years, the accomplishment of that must feel really great, but there are also huge sacrifices. I just always want to fight for happiness."

Good for her for claiming her life for herself. It's OK when things don't work out in a marriage, and it's miserable staying in one when things aren't working. This lady has grown up, and is taking the adult approach to dealing with her ex. She may not want to, but Luca will definitely appreciate it.

And one more thing ... Duff also revealed how she feels about her ex-boyfriend Aaron Carter's weird attempts to connect with her via social media. She thinks it's totally inappropriate, and even likened his posturing to Chris Brown! When asked about Aaron's declarations of love for her on Twitter, the former Disney star said, "Him reaching out through social media? It's ridiculous! But then people do it all the time, like Chris Brown and Karrueche? Come on, guys. Keep it between text messages."

Heh. She obviously has more respect for the father of her child and than her teenage boyfriend. We're OK with that.

Do you think Hilary Duff is right about marriages not being meant to last forever?
