Madonna Can Dress Up Like a Teen If She Wants To

Madonna has always taken a lot of flack, whether it was for wearing crucifixes with sexy outfits, kissing young pop singers on stage or writhing around in bridal attire, but she saved her greatest struggle for her golden years by refusing to get out the walking cane and shill for Metamusil. In fact, Madonna, at 56, still flogs her sexuality as much as ever -- even flashing her still-toned ass at the Grammy's. Now she's speaking out about ageism, and the fact that it seems to be the last frontier where people are free to judge and insult you.

Madonna told Rolling Stone:

It's still the one area where you can totally discriminate against somebody and talk shit. Because of their age. Only females, though. Not males. So in that respect we still live in a very sexist society.

No one would dare to say a degrading remark about being black or dare to say a degrading remark on Instagram about someone being gay, my age -- anybody and everybody would say something degrading to me. And I always think to myself, 'Why is that accepted?' What's the difference between that and racism, or any discrimination? They're judging me by my age.

As for her ass-baring Grammy's outfit, Madge says:

This is what a 56-year-old ass looks like, motherf***ers!

Well, maybe her 56-year-old ass does!

While there is psychological value to "letting go" of your time to be the hottest girl in the room (hey, make room for the newbies!), and I think that trying to stay "young" with sexual provocativeness and beauty is a losing battle, one that is only likely to make you depressed and anxious as you are hurled into old age whether you like it or not, Madonna does have a point.

Men are given much more leeway to act how they choose at any age. Sure, everyone started getting on George Clooney for still being single in his 50s. But on the whole men are still allowed to date younger women, jump out of airplanes, and be perceived as virile and sexy long past the time they might actually be so.

So why can't Madonna prance around in fishnets and high heels, hooking up with young dudes, and baring her cleavage for Instagram? Hey, if it makes her happy. At the very least, it sends the message that passion, love, and sex doesn't end with your 50th birthday.

Should Madonna cover up?
