Robert Pattinson Makes Shocking '50 Shades' Confession

robert pattinson twilightWith the highly anticipated Fifty Shades of Grey hitting theaters this weekend, it's probably more apparent than ever now: Robert Pattinson and Jamie Dornan have a lot in common. At least career-wise. They brought to life the extremely rich, extremely good-looking leading fictional men of franchises fervent fans just can't seem to get enough of. And as mostly everyone knows by now, Fifty Shades of Grey started off as Twilight fan fiction! But Pattinson has finally spoken out about Fifty Shades of Grey and his thoughts on the whole phenomenon.

Edward Cullen, ahem, excuse us, Pattinson admitted to Reuters that he's shockingly, gasp, can it be, never read the books! "I haven't actually read the book but I think it must be very, very different," said the 28-year-old. "I don't see how it can work if it's not different."

He understands that Fifty Shades is super-popular ... but he can't put into words exactly why. "It's amazing; it's that fan base," he said. "There's some kind of profound connection that a bunch of people have to it and I've never figured out quite what it is."

Whatever that connection is, it sure is making lots of people lots of money!

But in news that will warm the cockles, it seems Dornan was meant to follow in Pattinson's perfect-leading-man shoes, as Dornan and Pattinson have been friends foreeeeeever. "It's kind of weird," Pattinson admitted. "I've known Jamie for about 10 years."

Seriously, forget Kristen Stewart and Dakota Johnson, it seems Dornan and Pattinson were made for each other. Dornan even told Variety, "I don't remember what we talked about the last time I saw him. I think we just got drunk."

Sounds about right!

Whatever happens with Dornan's career, at least these two can bond over a love of drinking, the responsibility of playing the most rich, good-looking men in fiction, trying to perfect an American accent, and navigating the tricky waters of Hollywood after starring in an insanely popular film franchise (based off of what some would argue as horrifically written books) such as Twilight and Fifty Shades of Grey. So looks like there's no point in debating over Team Edward vs. Team Christian. Everyone's getting along this time!

What do you think of Robert Pattinson's thoughts on Fifty Shades of Grey?
