Katy Perry & Taylor Swift Feud Escalates Prior to Super Bowl Halftime Gig

Katy PerryBad blood, indeed. With Katy Perry set to take the stage during the Super Bowl halftime show this Sunday, February 1, fans may get more of a show than they bargained for. The "Roar" singer recently opened up to Billboard about her feud with fellow pop star Taylor Swift, and said she will respond to the shade-throwing.

Last fall, the "Bad Blood" singer told Rolling Stone that that song was written for another pop star, who had basically stabbed her in the back after being nice to her face. Internet speculation ensued (Miley Cyrus? Selena Gomez?) but it basically settled on Katy Perry as the culprit, after she tweeted, "Watch out for the Regina George in sheep's clothing..."

That's a Mean Girls reference, for the uninitiated. And in case you were wondering, the whole thing reportedly stemmed from Katy "poaching" some of Taylor's dancers during tour, although the rumor is that they were only working for Taylor while off-duty from Katy. Pop star problems, amirite?

An insider later confirmed to Us Weekly that it was indeed about the "Dark Horse" crooner. "Katy knows Taylor's song is about her, which is why she tweeted that," the source said, adding that the two ladies were "very competitive."

Adding fuel to the frenemy fire is the fact that both Tay Tay and Kay Kay dated John Mayer.

Anyway, Perry spoke to Billboard about her upcoming Super Bowl halftime gig, and was asked about the feud. She said that she's not one to "take hits," and, "If somebody is trying to defame my character ... you're going to hear about it."

Speaking of the Super Bowl -- we're all kinds of excited to see Katy perform. She said, "Everyone has been asking me if I'm going to be nervous before the halftime show," she told Billboard. "I'm like, I'm ... human. This is the biggest event of my career."

She continued, "I want the show to be quintessential Katy. It's like the exclamation point on the whole last cycle. This is the cherry on top to everything I've already done."

Considering the fact that she's going to be performing with Missy Elliott, we're pretty sure it's going to be a great show. Katy said during a press conference on Thursday, "All I can say is that it will be a real female fun night ... it's a bit old school, but when this person enters the stage and you hear the first ring of the chord, jaws will drop and faces will melt."

"They call me boss lady on the field and off the field.," she revealed. "I feel very honored and very proud and very blessed that I get to play the halftime show at this age. I feel like it’s an incredible humbling spiritual experience."
