Sean Penn Takes a Passive Aggressive Dig at Ex-Wives Madonna & Robin Wright

Sean Penn, Charlize TheronSean Penn seems happy as clam lately with Charlize Theron, whom he is reportedly engaged to. It would be a third marriage for the Oscar-winning actor -- not that he thinks so. Penn, 54, said in a recent interview that if he and Theron were to tie the knot, he'd consider it a "first marriage."

The Milk actor told the March 2015 issue of Esquire UK, "You say I've been married twice before but I've been married under circumstances where I was less informed than I am today, so I wouldn't even consider a third marriage, I'd consider it a first marriage on its own terms if I got married again. I mean, I like the tradition."

Less than informed? It's not like Penn had two quicky marriages that were barely a blip on the radar. The dude was married to Madonna from 1985 to 1989, and then to Robin Wright for 14 years before they called it quits in 2010.

Heck, he and Wright had two children together before they made it official and tied the knot! You can't get much married than that. If you can't get an annulment, you were married. End of story -- to say otherwise is to do a disservice to the part of your life that you shared with that person. It doesn't matter how you feel about them now, at one point you loved them enough to pledge your life to theirs. Honor that, if nothing else.

More from The Stir: Charlize Theron Drops Bombshell About Relationship With Sean Penn

Penn admitted that while he doesn't feel like he was really married to either Madonna or Robin Wright, he is amicable with both. He said,"I'm very friendly with my first ex-wife ... I would say that I'm on extremely good terms with the children I share with my second ex-wife."

He continued, "I'm surprised to be in love ... Lot of reasons. Fifty-three years old [when they got together] plus finally beginning to figure out why you haven't been happy in a single relationship? It could seem too late."

Well, we're glad he's happy. Everyone deserve love. But did he have to go and slight his first two ex-wives in declaring his true love for his current paramour?

Do you think it's rude to discount an ex-spouse like this?
