Antonio Banderas Admits He Still Loves Melanie Griffith

Antonio Banderas, Melanie GriffithAntonio Banderas and Melanie Griffith sent shock waves through celeb couple-dom world last summer when they announced that they were divorcing after 18 years of marriage. While we don't know the exact circumstances that led to this legendary pair calling it quits, Antonio recently came out and shared the truth of how he really feels about his soon-to-be-ex-wife.

The Spanish hunk was promoting his new sci-fi flick Autómata, which also stars Griffith, on the Spanish TV show El Hormiguero when he was asked about the split.

"It's been an intense year ... life goes on," the actor said. He continued, "I admire and respect Melanie first and foremost as a great actress. I have always said that. That's why she is in the movie. And she's also the person that I loved, that I love, and will always love."

Of course he may love Griffith as the mother of his child (Stella, 18) and partner for nearly two decades, but that doesn't mean he hasn't moved on.

The show's host then said, "You are lucky to have fallen in love again. So all the best, I hope you are happy and Melanie, too."

"Thank you very much," was his demure reply.

Just a few months after they announced their separation in June 2014, Banderas was spotted out and about with Dutch investment consultant Nicole Kimpel, who happens to be 20 years his junior. It happens, right?

Anyway, the two were spotted jogging together in Marbella, Spain, and at an awards show the next day. He also mentioned the new romance to the press, telling The Olive Press that they're taking things slowly.

"We are in the process of getting to know each other," he said. "She is shy and doesn't have anything to do with my work, which is no bad thing."

Well, it's nice to know that Antonio has nothing bad to say about Melanie ... even if it is a platonic love. His moving on so quickly is probably a good indicator that the romantic love fizzled out awhile ago.

Do you think it's healthy to still love your ex-spouse after you divorce?
