Nicki Minaj's Boyfriend of 11 Years Reveals the Real Reason They Split

Nicki MinajWhen couples have been together for years and years, it's hard not to wonder why it didn't work out in the long run. It's not like they dated a few months or even a year or two and realized they weren't compatible -- something kept them together for a long time. Safaree Samuels recently recently opened up about why he and Nicki Minaj broke up after 11 years together, and what he describes doesn't sound like a real relationship at all.

Minaj has had quite the outlet for her feeling over the breakup on her latest album The Pinkprint, even if we have to guess at what some of the lyrics actually mean (heh -- "Bed of Lies" makes it pretty easy though), but Samuels just straight up told it like it is -- at least from his perspective. After all, there are always two sides to every story, right?

Anyway, Samuels said that Minaj treated him more like an "employee" instead of her partner.

"I walked away. I'm not going to say I broke up, but I'm the one who walked away," he explained. "I packed up my stuff and I left."

"I just got to the point where the respect wasn't there," he continued. "Everyone around her works for her, you know? So it got to the point where it was like, I'm your man. I'm who you go to sleep with every night. I'm who you wake up with every morning. And it got to the point where I was being treated like an employee, instead of like her man."

He claimed that despite their Twitter feud after "Bed of Lies" came out (Minaj raps about "contemplating overdose" because of his alleged lies), he would never publicly dis his ex-love.

"I would never do anything publicly to try to pull her down. Whatever happens between me and her one-on-one is what it is, that's personal. I would never put that out there," he asserted. "I could be out here telling a million stories and doing cornball s--t, but I'm not gonna do that and I never plan on doing that. I just think it's crazy for her to come out now and try to pull me down and try to say I'm corny."

As for why Nicki decided to include the deeply personal lyrics on her latest album? She told Rolling Stone, "One of my goals was to give people a glimpse into my personal life, because it's something I've kept very private. I had to learn to do something as simple as sleep alone. I struggled with 'Do I express these feelings?' And I decided there's no reason for me to hide. I'm a vulnerable woman, and I'm proud of that."

Sometimes people just don't work out after years and years together, and a lot of times it's because it has turned into a "business partner" or roommate situation instead of a real romantic relationship. In those cases, you can choose to keep going on like that, or try to break the cycle.

Or you know, maybe he did lay down a bed of lies for her. He said, she said, you know.

Do you think Nicki really treated her man like an employee?
