Beyoncé & Jay Z Give Overseas Troops Heartwarming Surprise (VIDEO)

beyonce troopsYou would think that superstars like Jay Z and Beyonce would be ringing in the new year thinking of absolutely nothing but celebrating with all their posh celebrity friends in Times Square or Europe or somewhere else fancy and fun. Or even hanging at home in one of their mansions with adorable daughter Blue Ivy and not having a care in the world. Nope, instead they opted to go the incredibly heartwarming route by surprising troops overseas and giving them a special screening of their 2014 On The Run concert special.

Of course, it would have been even more awesome if Jay Z and Beyonce actually made an appearance themselves -- apparently they were on vacation in Thailand and Cambodia -- but it was still super-nice of them to think of doing this for the troops.

"I just want to say a big thank you to our troops for everything you do to keep our country safe," Beyonce told them in the pre-taped clip. "We all sleep better at night knowing that you guys are protecting us, and we're filled with gratitude."

The troops definitely appreciated the gesture too. Us Weekly reported that SSgt Ferguson, who is stationed in Afghanistan, said, "Watching the On The Run concert made me forget I was in Afghanistan for the holidays. Thank you." The screening was broadcast for servicemen and women stationed in Kuwait and Afghanistan, and no doubt it was a welcome reminder of home during the holidays.

The press release that was just published said:

Troops from all branches united as one and brought in 2015 simultaneously at all three overseas military installations. Brought together by the USO and their love of music, the screenings were designed to bring a touch of home to troops during the holidays and serve as a welcomed distraction from day-to-day challenges and responsibilities.

As long as this screening was able to give the troops a little taste of home, we say mission accomplished. Hopefully next time this power couple will make an in-person appearance though and give them the show of a lifetime! It's the least they all deserve.
