Teresa Giudice 'Very, Very Strong' as She Officially Enters Prison

Teresa Giudice

It's been a LONG three months for Real Housewives of New Jersey star Teresa Giudice. She was sentenced to 15 months in prison on October 3 after pleading guilty to 41 counts of fraud including bank, mail, and wire bankruptcy fraud. And as of 3 a.m. today, Teresa surrendered to the Federal Correctional Institution in Danbury, Connecticut (the very same one that Orange Is the New Black is based on).

To Teresa's credit, there were no cameras, no paparazzi, and no three-ring circus that we've come to expect from her very public life over the years. According to her lawyer, Teresa put on a really brave face this morning and was "very, very strong" upon her arrival. I cannot even fathom the knots in her stomach or the thoughts running through her head as she exchanged her designer clothes for a jumpsuit.

The lawyer also noted that Teresa's concerns have not been about herself but about how this will affect her four daughters. Gia, her oldest, has been especially vocal on Twitter about the anxiety of losing her mom for the next 15 months. Over the weekend she tweeted about not being able to sleep, and last night she posted:

While Gia and Gabriella, the two oldest daughters, know that Teresa is serving jail time -- her youngest daughters Milania and Audriana have been kept in the dark. In fact, Teresa told them that she's going to jail to work on a book. Um, okay, I think the girls might figure out that something is up on the first visiting day, but I get that she doesn't want them to worry.

I have to say, I really do appreciate that Teresa is holding her head high and focusing on the needs of her kids during this stressful time. I half expected cameras from Bravo to follow her into prison this morning and expected at least one more sit-down with Andy Cohen. But instead, Teresa spent the holidays with her kids and kept things normal with ski trips and presents to take everyone's minds off the inevitable.

Teresa's husband Joe enters a 41-month sentence as soon as Teresa finishes hers, so it's going to be a tumultuous few years for the kids. My heart breaks for them and I really do hope that Teresa keeps her focus on the kids, keeps the cameras away, and comes out of this horrible situation stronger and wiser than before.

How do you think Teresa will handle her prison sentence?
