Anne Hathaway Has Perfect Comeback for All Her Haters

Anne Hathaway on Ellen Degeneres

I know that Anne Hathaway doesn't always make it easy for people to like her -- though I'm not entirely sure why. Yes, hosting the 2011 Oscars with James Franco was a huge mistake. Yes, her nipples got more attention in 2013 during her Oscar acceptance speech than the fact that she actually won. Yes, she can sound a bit like a know-it-all in interviews. Okay, I know I'm not making a very good case here, but the truth is -- she's not that bad!

And I think you might agree after you hear what she had to say about all the backlash and Internet bullies (yes, she's well aware they're out there) and how she was finally able to tune it all out while on The Ellen DeGeneres Show today. In fact, it's a life lesson we all could benefit from.

Anne said she discovered that Googling her name made "Why Does Everyone Hate Anne Hathaway?" pop up as the main thing searched, and it really hurt her feelings. Until she had an epiphany.

Well, I listened at first. I couldn't help it. You know, you try to shut it off, and I couldn't. Then I realized why I couldn't: I hadn't learned to love myself yet. I hadn't gotten there. If you don't love yourself when someone says horrible things to you, part of you is always going to believe them. So then I was like, 'Okay. I don't want to believe these people. I don’t want to agree with them on any level, and I want to figure out who I am. I want to learn who I am. I don’t want to feel like I’m fragile every time I leave the house because I'm so dependent on what other people think about me.'

Wow, I have to say that's extremely insightful of Anne. I think on some level, everyone has dealt with haters and doubt and crippling insecurities in their personal or professional lives. You sometimes just have to hold your head up high and find it within yourself to know that the haters aren't the final word in how you decide to live your life. Anne has a pretty amazing career, and those who don't like her don't have to watch The Princess Diaries and The Devil Wears Prada every time it's on TV. I've watched it -- and will continue to watch -- enough for everyone!

More from The Stir: Anne Hathaway Shares Embarrassing Matthew McConaughey Story

Anne also took a cue from Matthew McConaughey, her co-star in her new movie Interstellar (out on Friday), on how to move forward. "I just took a step back, and as [Matthew] would say, 'I just kept living ... '"

Okay, can we all agree that it's not cool to hate on Anne anymore? She's suffered enough and I think she's proven that she's human, has feelings, and doesn't care what you think -- she's still going to make movies and they are still going to be a success! In fact, early buzz says we just may see Anne and her Interstellar co-stars on the awards show circuit next year!

So, are you an Anne Hathaway fan or hater?
