Anne Hathaway Shares Embarrassing Matthew McConaughey Story

Anne HathawayIt may sound like a plot device for the latest comedy to hit the big screens, but Anne Hathaway says this real life embarrassment with her Interstellar costar Matthew McConaughey actually happened.

At Tuesday night's American Cinematheque tribute to McConaughey, Hathaway shared a story about the time he invited her and her husband Adam Shulman to a house party at his Los Angeles abode.

"I have a story and it's kind of embarrassing," she began, describing the incident.

"My husband and I drive up. It's a Sunday. It's a beautiful day," Hathaway said. "There are no cars around and we thought, OK, we're on time. We're on time for once."

After being greeted at the door by a smiling McConaughey, he invited them in. As they walked in, Hathaway remembered, "Matthew turns around, again [with] a smile and goes, 'The party was last night.'"

Hahaha! That is so something that you wouldn't think about happening to movie stars. Don't they have assistants or something to keep their schedules straight?

Anyway, ever the Southern gentleman, McConaughey invited them in for a glass of wine.

"That glass of wine lead to the first bottle," Hathaway said. "I stopped counting after four and then I went with you to someone's surprise birthday party that night ... You were so good to me and Adam."

What a sweetheart! It wasn't the first time Hathaway had been impressed with his mad life skills either.

"It's our first day on Interstellar," she recalled. "I don't know what to expect but I meet you and you are present. You seem so cool and you seem so sincere and I walk away and I think, Wow, that guy's just amazing."

Reese Witherspoon was also in attendance to pay tribute to the Dallas Buyers Club actor. "He grew up on cattle ranches, dirt roads and oil fields instilled with the values of his hardworking father, his equally hardworking brothers and his tough-as-nails and super sweet southern mother who told him never to look at the dust on the table, focus on the rose in the glass," she said. "And all of this is written on his face, a face that tells the story of drive and sincerity. He grew up appreciating his family and where he came from."

Can we be friends with Matthew McConaughey please? We promise to show up to his parties on time.
