Katy Perry to Perform at 2015 Super Bowl Halftime Show

Katy PerryIt's (basically) official! Katy Perry will be performing in the Super Bowl XLIX halftime show, according to multiple reports. Her name has been in the running since August, along with Rihanna and Coldplay.

The pick comes after the NFL's controversial decision to ask potential performers to pay up in order to headline the show, which of course draws massive viewers -- namely the non-football fans who enjoy Super Bowls parties but only watch the commercials and the halftime show.

Side note: No shame -- I'm one of you too! The year isn't complete without Super Bowl commercials and a halftime show! (Apologies to all *real* sports fans everywhere.)

The National Football League asked the musicians in the running if they would consider contributing "a portion of their post-Super Bowl tour income to the league, or if they would make some other type of financial contribution, in exchange for the halftime gig."

There's no word on what sort of deal Perry accepted (heck, it isn't even official-official yet), but in an appearance last Saturday on ESPN's College GameDay, the "This Is How We Do" singer said she's "not the kind of girl to pay to play the Super Bowl."

It's also interesting that the NFL had been considering Rihanna too ... and it's anyone's guess as to whether she turned down the offer or if it was rescinded.

Rihanna recently tweeted a big ol' "F--- you!" to CBS after they decided to nix the use of her song "Run This Town" with Jay Z from the Thursday Night Football lineup because of the whole Ray Rice fiasco. Lyrics to the song include, "Feel it comin' in the air. Hear the screams from everywhere. I’m addicted to the thrill. It’s a dangerous love affair."

Coldplay probably lost the gig because they're British and Football is American. Just kidding! Don't hate.

Do you think Katy Perry is a good choice for the 2015 Super Bowl halftime show?
