Kristen Stewart Is Almost Unrecognizable in New 'Camp X-Ray' Trailer (VIDEO)

Sad (or glad?) to say, but Kristen Stewart will forever be connected to the role of Bella Swan in the Twilight series. But both stars of that crazy popular franchise are definitely branching out and trying to show the world that they are veritable forces in Hollywood. Instead of a love-struck teenager, she is playing a soldier assigned to Guantanamo Bay in Camp X-Ray. She makes friends with a detainee -- her co-star is Peyman Moaadi, who blew critics away in A Separation.

Now a brand-new trailer for Camp X-Ray has been released. It seems so far, after being reviewed by critics, the response has been rather mixed. Still, a lot of them praised KStew's performance in no doubt what is a far grittier, darker role than Bella Swan. And having a female be front-and-center in a military-based movie is also something we can all get behind.

Check it out:

Intense, right? Definitely a far cry from the role for which she is most famous. Apparently Camp X-Ray was the name of a detention area in Gitmo, in case you couldn't figure that out. It's now closed. But the sneak peek behind Stewart's character and Moaadi's character looks to be quite fascinating and riveting. It seems that both bring out the best in each other, and KStew definitely gives her all for this role.

Here's the official description of the film:

A young woman joins the military to be part of something bigger than herself and her small town roots. But she ends up as a new guard at Guantanamo Bay instead, where her mission is far from black and white. Surrounded by hostile jihadists and aggressive squadmates, she strikes up an unusual friendship with one of the detainees. A story of two people, on opposite sides of a war, struggling to find their way through the ethical quagmire of Guantanamo Bay. And in the process, they form an unlikely bond that changes them both.

It comes out on October 17! So be sure to save the date! Looks like it will be a good one.

Are you going to see this movie? What do you think about KStew's performance in the trailer?
