Lindsay Lohan's Stage Debut Was Worse Than Anyone Could Have Imagined

I imagine anyone who attends a play with Lindsay Lohan in it -- even if said play was written by David Mamet -- has the eensy hope in the back of their mind that the actress will do something ... how do I put this? Train-wrecky. Despite once having a promising career, Lohan sadly is now more well-known for her DUIs than her awesome performance of Cady Heron. So, when she was cast in Mamet's new London play, Speed-the-Plow, it was a little bit of a surprise. Lindsay? On stage? W-w-w-wait, Lindsay Lohan?

The play had a preview performance on Tuesday night, and for all those people secretly hoping Lindsay would pull a, well, Lindsay -- they were in luck. Lohan's performance in the Speed-the-Plow was "a total car crash," replete with the actress forgetting her lines and needing to be fed them from people off-stage. Oof. I feel uncomfy just writing about this.

According to The Daily Beast, Lohan couldn't have been less prepared for the performance, and people had no problem openly laughing at her. Apparently, at one point, a woman in the audience said loudly, "Oh my god, it's so embarrassing." She was at a loss for her lines on several occasions, and a reporter wrote, "After her first audible prompt, which came shortly after the interval, the audience sat patiently. The second led to titters in the stalls. Unfortunately for Lohan, the next line delivered by Richard Schiff (Toby from The West Wing) was: 'You have done a fantastic job!'"

On the one hand, I feel bad for Lohan. Like I said, I'm sure even the most die-hard Mamet/theater fans were hoping Lindsay would do something for people to (negatively) talk about. But on the other, OMG! Knowing that people were waiting for her to screw up, how did she not lock herself in a windowless room for months in order to have her role completely down?

The performance was just a preview and the play isn't officially open yet, so hopefully in the upcoming weeks, Lindsay will get it together in an attempt to nail the part and silence the haters. But if I were a betting woman, I wouldn't put money on it.

Do you think Lindsay will ever get it together?
