Melissa Rivers Speaks Out for First Time Since Joan Rivers' Funeral

Melissa Rivers has no doubt been grieving something fierce over the loss of her mother Joan Rivers. The 81-year-old icon died earlier this month after complications from an outpatient procedure on her vocal cords.

Despite Joan's acerbic humor and sometimes usually biting one-liners, she had countless fans, and Melissa spoke out for the first time since her mom's red carpet funeral to thank them for their support.

The Fashion Police producer took to to break her silence on Wednesday, September 17. The grateful star wrote:

As my son Cooper and I mourn the loss of my mother, we want to thank everyone for the beautiful cards and flowers conveying heartfelt messages and condolences, which continue to arrive from around the world and through social media. My mother would have been overwhelmed by the scope and depth of the love that people have expressed for her. It is certainly helping to lift our spirits during this time.

We are forever grateful for your kindness and support in continuing to honor my mother’s legacy, and for remembering the joy and laughter that she brought to so many.

I think she's totally right -- Joan would have loved all the attention she's been getting, and I'm sure she'd have the perfect comeback to those folks who claimed they didn't like her when she was alive. And then she'd probably laugh and remind them not to take life too seriously.

Say what you will about Joan Rivers, but she was never afraid to live life to the fullest.
