George Clooney Headed to 'Downton Abbey' ... Sort Of

Is George Clooney's British bride-to-be Amal Alamuddin influencing his career? The actor will be guest starring on season 5 of Downton Abbey, which kicks off September 21. You read that right! Gorgeous George will be rubbing shoulders with the Crawleys in a sketch scene for ITV's Christmas charity fundraiser.

Word is he has already filmed his part and will appear around Christmastime. He reportedly plays a wedding guest, which basically means he will be outfitted in some incredibly sharp period duds. No word on whether or not he will be trying out a British accent, but he could be speaking pig Latin and we'd still swoon.

This is great news for DA fans who have been wondering just how show execs planned to spice up the next season. Most of us are still reeling from the death of dear Matthew. Not that Clooney will be Lady Mary's new love interest (if only!). It sounds like this is a one-off deal. How did it come about? Apparently George became chummy with Hugh Bonneville, who plays stuffy family patriarch Robert Crawley, while they were filming The Monuments Men together.

But who knows -- George could have had so much fun, he may want to become a regular on the actual show. How amazing would that be. Even the Dowager Countess would have to crack a smile at that!

Do you think George Clooney would make a good Downton Abbey addition?
