Hilary Duff Needs to Stop Leading Aaron Carter On

Hilary Duff

In case you've forgotten, Hilary Duff dated washed up pop star Aaron Carter back in the day before he became a has-been (womp womp). That romance didn't work out (insert rumor about him cheating with Lindsay Lohan here), and Hils went on to marry hunky hockey player Mike Comrie and bear an adorable son named Luca with him.

Well, Hilary and Mike called it quits earlier this year, but the two have yet to actually file for divorce, and questions remain as to whether or not they'll try to work it out after all. Aaron has let loose with some interesting tweets about wanting Hilary back, and recently the former Disney star publicly addressed her relationship with Carter.

In an interview with BuzzFeed, Duff was asked about Carter's supposed undying love for her and whether or not she'd be willing to get back together with him. Nick Carter's little brother has repeatedly taken to Twitter this year to express his unrequited feelings for the "Chasing the Sun" singer.

"I was not expecting this question," she laughed uncomfortably.

"He does, I keep seeing that, that he keeps doing that. I don't know how I feel. I mean, that was so long ago, and obviously I'm still married and I have a baby and we kind of just ... don't know each other. So, yeah ..."

More from The Stir: Hilary Duff May Not Be Getting Divorced After All

For an example of the kind of tweet Aaron has been sending her, here's one from last May:

"Don't be that stupid dick that loses that love of your life forever. Like me ... I'll spend the rest of my life trying to better myself to get back to her. I don't care what any of you think."

When a fan asked if he were referring to Duff, he responded, "Sure am."

Dude. We know that Hilary is just trying to be sweet and nice and not hurt Aaron's feelings, but she can't say vague things like that when asked if there's a chance for them to get back together. I think it's pretty clear that they're never ever ever getting back together.

As much as a girl might swoon over lovesick and self-deprecating tweets about how losing her is the biggest mistake he's ever made, the fact is that he lost her. Now he needs to let her go.

Hilary could help the process along by responding with a firm "no" when asked if she'd consider dating him again. Just no. One simple word. No hemming and hawing, no internal debate, no carefully chosen words -- just no. And leave it at that.

Do you think Hilary Duff is leading Aaron Carter on with wishy-washy comments?
