X Factor Contestant & G.R.L. Singer Simone Battle Dead in Apparent Suicide

Simone BattleSimone Battle, a singer and former The X Factor finalist who seemed on her way to stardom, was found dead of an apparent suicide. TMZ reports that Battle was found hanging in her bedroom closet by her father. Simone was currently in a group called G.R.L., a reboot of the Pussycat Dolls and had recently had a hit song with rapper Pitbull.

A joint statement by her record labels and G.R.L. and Pussycat Dolls founder Robin Antin said:

Simone was an exceptional young talent and human being, and we are all devastated to learn of her passing. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family and loved ones at this time.

Cheryl Cole, who was a judge during the time Battle competed on X Factor, offered her condolences via Twitter:

It's always baffling and tragic when someone still so young and full of life takes their own. Battle and her group had recorded a song with rapper Pitbull called "Wild Wild Love" and it appeared to be a hit; the song has over 28 million hits on YouTube since March.

Battle was finally beginning to get the recognition in the music world that she had worked long and hard for, so it's unfathomable that she would end it all now, but you never know what terrible darkness or depression is lurking in someone's mind.
