Taylor Swift Thanks Lena Dunham for Educating Her on Feminism

taylor swift lena dunhamThe sweetness that is Taylor Swift comes from her incredible ability to make us all want to sing along and feel just like she feels even if we are old enough to be her mother. Okay, she's 24. She's young. Not too young. But she's wise. In her own sweet Taylor Swift way. Her wise ways, however, came from a very reputable source -- at least in my opinion. Swift credits Lena Dunham for teaching her some things, specially on women's rights.

Can you hear the girl power roar? Taylor and Lena are both forces in their own right. (I adore the show Girls.) And this female appreciation is so welcome, so needed, so incredible that Taylor is acknowledging other women like that. See? She's so wise! Check out what she said.

In an intereview with The Guardian, Taylor said:

As a teenager, I didn’t understand that saying you’re a feminist is just saying that you hope women and men will have equal rights and equal opportunities. What it seemed to me, the way it was phrased in culture, society, was that you hate men. Becoming friends with Lena -- without her preaching to me, but just seeing why she believes what she believes, why she says what she says, why she stands for what she stands for -- has made me realise that I’ve been taking a feminist stance without actually saying so.

Now it's no secret that Taylor and Lena are pals. And I love how she appreciates her and all that she taught her. That's how friendships should work -- you learn from each other, you grow together, you figure things out together, things big and small.

Lena tweeted a response to Taylor:

Applause for @taylorswift13's spot on definition of feminism (and NOT because she mentions me). Taylor recognizes that at its core it's not about radicalism or rage, but equality. Her willingness to own the term means much to many. She's been my feminist role model for a long time. And I cannot f--king wait for her VMA performance. When someone grows, changes and shows their vulnerability and evolution publicly... That's a gift they give to us that we should honor.

Can I get a hell yeah?

What do you think of Taylor's statement? And Lena's?
