Cameron Diaz Cuts Interview Short When Host Goes Too Far

Cameron DiazDon't mess with Cameron Diaz's homies! The blonde actress (whom we always knew we wanted for a BFF, by the way) was doing an Australian radio interview on KIIS 106.5's Kyle & Jackie O show, when one of the hosts dissed her long time friend Drew Barrymore.

Diaz and her Sex Tape co-star Jason Segal called in for a live interview to promote their movie on Monday, and Jackie O pointed out that the couple's movie daughter (played by actress Giselle Eisenberg) reminded her "a little bit" of a young Barrymore in E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial.

The 41-year-old Diaz commented about her 39-year-old Charlies Angels co-star, "Aw, yeah! She does, now that you mention it. And she's as bright and lively as Drew is, as well. She's a sweet little girl."

That's when it went quickly went downhill ... the other host, Kyle Sandilands, chimed in with, "Let's hope she misses out on the Drew Barrymore drug years, because those were a great thing to watch, but not so good to be in, I'd imagine."

Let's take a moment to tip our hat to teenage Drew, who did have drug problems as a teen, and famously entered rehab twice at just age 14. She's certainly overcome a lot, which just makes us adore her even more, of course.

Diaz obviously adores her too, because she did not take kindly to the quip. While the first half of the interview was all lively banter and bubbly laughter, she closed up like a clam after that.

Sensing the tension, Jackie O tried to break it up with, "What doesn't kill you makes you stronger."

The feisty actress wasn't about to let it go though. She said, "I'm sure, Kyle, you've never been through a drug phase, have you? Or alcoholism or anything like that? Pretty clean… always did it right? Congratulations.”

Then Sandilands made it worse by replying, "Hang on a second, but I'm friends with Benji [Madden]."

Jackie O tried to change the subject to Segel's weight loss for the movie, but Diaz ended the whole thing with, "We have to go now…. sorry, they're wrapping us up."

"Good one, Kyle," Jackie O told Kyle after the actors were off the line. "You ruined that interview … you brought up Drew Barrymore, her best friend's drug addiction in the past. She's her best friend! And then you brought up Benji. We all know how protective Cameron is about her private life."

Kyle defended his comments, saying, "Maybe, they should've just bought ads if they wanted to sell the movie."

Maybe, Kyle, if you ever want another celebrity interview, you should piss celebrities off.

Do you think the radio host went too far?
