Dave Coulier Tries to Escape 'You Oughta Know' Infamy

Dave CoulierSorry Uncle Joey, you can't take it back now. We all know know you were the jerk who broke Alanis Morrisette's heart and inspired our angsty 90s teen soundtrack, "You Oughta Know."

Remember when you found out that the Jagged Little Pill artist had written the best breakup song evah about Dave Coulier? Remember trying to reconcile in your brain the fact that Dave Coulier and Alanis Morissette once had a romantic relationship? And then the seriously zomg moment when you started questioning what exactly Alanis had done to him in a theater?

Well we've spent two decades accepting that reality, and now Dave Coulier is trying to take it back and say that it isn't necessarily about him.

In an interview with Buzzfeed, Coulier admitted to dating the singer back in the day, but denied that the scornful lyrics are about him.

"I dated Alanis in 1992," the actor said. "You know, it’s just funny to be the supposed subject of that song. First of all, the guy in that song is a real a-hole, so I don’t want to be that guy. Secondly, I asked Alanis, 'I’m getting calls by the media and they want to know who this guy is.' And she said, 'Well, you know it could be a bunch of people. But you can say whatever you want.'"

"One time, I was doing a red carpet somewhere and [the press] just wore me down and everybody wanted to know so I said, 'Yeah, all right, I’m the guy. There I said it.' So then it became a snowball effect of, 'OH! So you are the guy!'" he continued. "It’s just become this silly urban legend that I just have to laugh at."

Cut. It. Out. (Sorry, had to say it!)

Keep in mind this is the same guy who told HuffPo Live last September that he knew the song was about him.

"There was a lot of familiar stuff because she was writing a lot of material when we were dating, so there were some familiarities all throughout Jagged Little Pill ... The one that got me was, 'I hate to bug you in the middle of dinner.' That was because we had already broken up and she had called -- she was living in Canada at the time -- she called, and I said, 'Hey, I'm right in the middle of dinner, can I just call you right back?' I remember that line when I heard 'You Oughta Know,' and I just went… it was like, 'uh oh.'"

The song is totally about Dave Coulier.

Were you shocked the first time you heard that "You Oughta Know" was about Uncle Joey from Full House?
